SARASOTA – On Nov. 5, 2012, David Rule joined Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation, Inc. as Director of Planned Giving. He has worked in philanthropic giving in higher education and healthcare since 1973. Mr. Rule served as chief development officer at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville for 26 years, where he supervised a staff of 10 and programs including campaigns, planned giving, major gifts, grants, annual giving and all special fundraising events. He was a founding board member of the Smoky Mountain Planned Giving Council and a longtime member of the Knoxville Estate Planning council, serving on its board from 2008 until 2011.
Mr. Rule began his career at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee, later working for the University of Tennessee Health System, and East Tennessee Baptist Hospital before joining East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in 1984.
Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to improve the delivery of healthcare for the Sarasota area through the acquisition and utilization of philanthropic funds. Since 1976, the Foundation has awarded $49 million to support patient care, research, education, state-of-the-art medical technology, and facilities.
