WHO: Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Florida
WHAT: Integrated Mathematical Oncology (IMO) Workshop V2.0 – Presentation & Award Ceremony
Moffitt will host a presentation and award ceremony for the second Integrated Mathematical Oncology (IMO) Workshop for clinicians and researchers. This workshop is designed to motivate and facilitate hands-on modeling experience focused on treating metastatic disease in four cancers: glioma, lung, melanoma and prostate.
There will be an educational event and competition. The workshop will divide into four teams (one for each cancer), integrating clinical, experimental and theoretical members that will collaborate to develop and implement a mathematical model focused on cancer metastasis. The teams are expected to design a model, solve it and give a presentation within four intense days.
Several independent judges will view the closing presentations and decide the winning team. This year we are honored to have a special guest judge Prof. Jim Murray (Princeton) who is the father of modern Mathematical Biology and a pioneer in applying mathematical models to Oncology. Other judges are Drs. Alexander Anderson, Julie Djeu and Jack Pledger.
The presentations will showcase the culmination of 3 days of intense research unifying 4 diverse team of scientists that include clinicians, mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, experimental biologists and radiation oncologists to name a few. IMO is pioneering this type of integrative research and believes it is critical to developing novel way to both understand and treat cancer.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6
