Tampa, Fla. — The Tampa community is invited to attend the Greater Tampa 2012 Veterans Day Celebration at Joe Chillura Courthouse Square in downtown Tampa at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 9. Hosted by the Military Affairs Council of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature the always popular parade of flags, a concert by local school children and remarks by Lieutenant General Robert B. Neller USMC, Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Central Command.
“This is the twelfth year we have held this community tribute to demonstrate the Chamber’s deep appreciation for those who have protected our freedoms,” said Captain Bob Silah USN (Ret.), 2012 event chair. “Our local, past and present veterans deserve this tribute and we salute their supportive families as well.”
Invited guests include families of those county residents killed in action, combat-wounded patients being treated at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, elected officials, civic leaders and senior military representatives from MacDill Air Force Base. The Sam Rampello Downtown Partnership School band and chorus will perform patriotic musical selections, and there will be a reading of the names of Hillsborough country veterans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The ceremony is sponsored by USAA, Saint Leo University, Bank of America, Boeing and the Tampa Tribune. A light lunch and beverages will be served after the one-hour ceremony.
Joe Chillura Courthouse Square is located on Kennedy Boulevard between Pierce and Morgan streets in downtown Tampa.
