To be held Saturday Nov. 3rd
During: OLD SALT 19TH ANNUAL FALL KING OF THE BEACH / MAD. BEACH FOOD FEST
November 1-3, 2012
If “mackerel fishing” is a part of your vocabulary then “King of the Beach” should be, too! The Old Salt Fishing Foundation is counting down the days to the largest King and Spanish Mackerel Tournament on the West Coast of Florida. More than 300 boats of all powers and sizes will converge on Madeira Beach to create the most exciting fishing tournament ever! “We’ve designed this tournament to match anglers of all abilities”, says Old Salt President and Tournament Director, Tom Verdensky. “We’ve leveled the playing field and made The K.O.T.B. a tournament that either a seasoned angler OR a novice can win. We’ve taken the size and number of motors on the back of your boat out of the equation. This event is not about how many miles you run to get your fish. It truly is about the fun you have getting there and putting fish on the boat.”
IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT FISHING…
“Combining a community food festival, i.e. Mad Beach Food Fest into our tournament seemed natural to us. Fishing is a part of our community so we welcome all to join us” says Verdensky. Now picture a few thousand people having the time of their lives, and you have the biggest and best WATERFONT captains’ meeting out there! We have added a new fundraising effort this fall: FISHING FOR HOPE. We are collecting non-perishable food to hopefully “SINK THE BOAT” and feed needy families through Metropolitin Ministries. The display comes complete with a boat from Pro Marine wrapped with graphics!
Thursday night kicks off this three-day festival with a bang. Picture this, a ball field on the water just minutes from the Gulf. Add live music, a food festival with the best local flavor, all types of marine and art vendors, boat displays and a kid’s zone.
Friday night continues the fun with more great activities, food and a FREE CLASSIC ROCK concert.
Saturday starts off early afternoon with more food and drinks, a King and Spanish mackerel weigh-in and over $70,000 in cash and prizes. There will be a BAHAMIAN JUNKANOO BAND right after the signing of the proclamation right before the award ceremony for fishing tournament.
BOC OUTDOOR MEETING: This meeting is to approve the sister city relationship with Bimini, Bahamas.
This pairing will not only be beneficial to the City of Madeira Beach, but to the Old Salt Fishing Foundation as well. Mayor Travis Palladeno, the BOC and the Bahamian Delegation will sign the proclamation to join the cities together. City Manager Shane Crawford said he is familiar with sister city pairings and believes a relationship with Bimini “can have an immediate impact on Madeira Beach.”
