TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Times continues an established trend of circulation growth in Hillsborough and Central Pasco counties, gaining more subscribers in that area and extending its lead among Florida newspapers.
The Times’ circulation growth in Hillsborough and Central Pasco counties comes mostly from home delivery, which is very desirable to advertisers. The Times added more than 13,000 home delivery subscribers daily and more than 11,500 Sunday subscribers in the past six months ending in September, compared to the same time period last year.
“Clearly, the market is responding very positively to our product and new name – Tampa Bay Times,” said Times VP and Tampa Publisher Joe DeLuca. “We continue to add hundreds of new subscribers every week who are benefiting from our high quality of content, and our advertisers are seeing great results as well,” DeLuca added.
With a total Sunday circulation of 379,375, the Times remains the only Florida newspaper ranked among the country’s top 25 newspapers. The Times is the 12th largest Sunday circulation in the country among a comparison of print editions only.
Overall, total circulation declined both daily and Sunday market wide because of a pricing strategy to fuel circulation revenue and the reduction of the coupon frenzy. The Times’ total Sunday circulation declined 5.9 percent and daily circulation increased 30.4 percent, with the free daily, tbt*, now included as an edition of the Times.
Separately, a report released by an independent research firm confirmed that the Times grew Sunday readership by 19,800 readers, up 2% over last year. A survey of newspaper readers by the Scarborough firm showed the Sunday Times’ audience has grown 9%, or by 85,500 readers, over the past five years.
The Times now reaches 43 percent of all Tampa Bay adults Sunday, according to the report.
