Southwest Florida – The Neal Communities Golf Challenge helped B.D. Gullett Elementary School in Lakewood Ranch surpass its fundraising goals for 2012. Neal Communities was a lead sponsor of the event, contributing $12,500 to the Golf Challenge, held earlier this fall at the University Park Golf & Country Club. The event helped the school raise funds, enabling the staff and parents to provide much needed technological resources for its growing student population.
“B.D. Gullet sits adjacent to one of our most successful new home communities, Central Park,” said Pat Neal, President of Neal Communities. “We are proud to continue our partnership with our community’s schools to help provide students with a key asset to learning in today’s quickly changing, technological environment,” said Neal.
The fourth annual tournament was a huge success, attracting 128 golfers and raising $32,412 for the school. “We could not be more thankful to Neal Communities for their support of this event for the past several years,” said Kathy Hayes, B.D. Gullett Elementary School’s principal. “Mr. Neal has been a benefactor and supporter of our school since the beginning and with his help, we were able to beat our fundraising goal of $30,000. These resources help us continue to be ranked in top 10 percent of all elementary schools in the state,” said Hayes.
The funds from the tournament will help provide laptops and computer equipment for the students. “To equip a new classroom with the technology teachers need costs $5,000 per classroom,” said Hayes. “As the school grows, we are trying to overcome the challenges of providing every student with a laptop and replacing our aging inventory.” This year at Gullett, more than half of the computers are at least five years old, some older – meaning they will expire soon. The overall goal is to provide every student with their own laptop to work with at school. “With Pat Neal’s help, we have accomplished this with fifth graders; now our goal is to move on to our younger students, grade level by grade level. We hope to continue this partnership with Neal Communities for years and years to come,” said Hayes.
