Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts (TBBCA) presented awards during its 18th Annual Impact Awards and Save the Arts Benefit on Oct. 24 to nine leading businesses, individuals and nonprofits who have elevated Tampa Bay’s arts and cultural community through significant financial or in-kind contributions, volunteer service or innovative programming. Award winners were selected based on the level of involvement or support of the arts, impact of contribution, originality, quality and depth of service.
Business Impact Award winners included:
Bamboozle Cafe for giving artists a platform to showcase and promote their talents by hosting “Artapalooza” every first Tuesday of the month;
Bush Ross, P.A., for its long history of financial support of the David A. Straz Jr., Center for the Performing Arts and for encouraging its employees to support the arts financially and through professional services and voluntarism; and
Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa for its longstanding commitment to philanthropy and sponsorship of the arts.
Individual Impact Award winners included:
Abbey Dohring, vice president of brokerage for The Dohring Group for founding and chairing “ArtLOUD!,” a public art collaborative designed to beautify and enhance Tampa’s urban walking experience through sculpture;
John Toppe, founder of Toppe Consultants Inc., for his long history as an architectural consultant and volunteer for several arts organizations throughout Tampa Bay and particularly his service as lead architect on the Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory for the Performing Arts; and
Warren Rogers and Dr. Zena Lansky for being the driving force behind Tampa Bay’s free Not-for-Profit Workshops, teaching best practices for nonprofit marketing, branding, board development and fundraising; and for Dr. Lansky’s donation of time, talents and treasures to several arts organization in the Tampa Bay area, including a one million dollar gift to Opera Tampa, the organization’s largest single gift in its 15-year history.
Nonprofit Impact Award winners included:
Creative Clay for innovative cultural programming and for service to artists with disabilities;
Friends of the Arts for its support of arts education at Howard W. Blake Magnet High School of the Arts by meeting all of the school’s unfunded needs of 14 artistic tracks; and
MOSI for its series of innovative cultural programs and outreach, its commitment to Art in Public Places and for donating $250,000 a year in free passes and memberships to low-income children and families.
Each of the 2012 Impact Award winners received a limited edition Giclée of Dr. Juan Sanchez-Ramos’ Neon Neurons II series.
