Tampa, Fla. (Oct. 25, 2012) – Tampa Bay & Company has hired Liana Lopez to serve as director of communications. Lopez is a public relations strategist and media expert with 16 years of communications, media training and media relations experience.
“Tampa Bay & Company has built a new Communications Team, whose mission is to ignite global passion for visiting Tampa Bay,” said Tampa Bay & Company Vice President of Marketing & Communications Doug McClain. “Liana Lopez is the perfect addition to lead our team to secure national and international media coverage and tell Tampa Bay’s rich, diverse and compelling stories around the world.”
With Lopez’ extensive media relations experience and leadership skills, she will manage the company’s message, image and perception both locally and around the world. The team also includes a communications manager and a new position that oversees all social media and online content related to Tampa Bay as a tourist destination.
“This new Communications Team will hit the ground running as they spread the Tampa Bay message around the world via media, social media and engaging online content,” said Tampa Bay & Company President/CEO Kelly Miller. “Our goal is to capitalize on the media exposure we received during RNC, and Lopez is a fantastic addition to complement our Marketing Team. Through her leadership, visitors around the world will see and hear compelling Tampa Bay stories, rankings and online and social media content that will increase visitors, meetings and conventions to Tampa Bay.”

Prior to working with Tampa Bay & Company, Lopez established her own public relations firm. Her previous work includes serving as Director of Public Affairs at the City of Tampa during the Iorio administration. She was with city government for more than 10 years.
Lopez has a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA), Leadership Tampa Alumni and Junior League of Tampa. Lopez currently serves on the board of FPRA and is a member of The Florida Aquarium’s Rising Tides Communications Committee.
