Strawberry Crest High School and Absolute Auto Repair partnered to stop texting while driving.
Tampa, FL – A recent don’t Text and Drive campaign* showcased that while 97 percent of teens know texting while driving is dangerous, 43 percent of them admit to sending a text while driving – and 75 percent say the practice is common among their friends.
To reduce texting while driving by teens Scott and Cathy Kudlinski, owners of Absolute Auto Repair, teamed up with Strawberry Crest High School. 2300 Strawberry Crest High School students received “No Texting” thumb rings with pledge cards to “Absolutely not Text and Drive.” To inspire participation one lucky winner received an 8 person stretched limo from Paradise Worldwide Transportation for the Home Coming Dance this Friday the 19th.
“Because we are located a block from Strawberry Crest we saw more and more students texting while driving to and from school,” said Cathy Kudlinski. We wanted to do something to make a difference because we’ve seen many of the students grow up as their parents brought them to the shop, to them becoming teenagers and driving their cars in for service.
“Not only did the students get excited about the contest but so did the teachers at Strawberry Crest,” said Scott Kudlinski. Teachers handed out the No Texting thumb bands and pledge cards in home room and we collected them during an assembly in the gym and at the lunch cafeteria.
The Winner and 7 of their friends arrived in style last Friday at the Strawberry Crest Home Coming Dance.
To keep the focus on “No Texting and Driving” all year long, we are giving away $25 gift cards each month when we see the pledge card in a student’s car.” Cathy says.
