|Tampa, FL – On October 25, 2011, Joe Chillura Park in Downtown Tampa will be the site of the 6th Annual NOPE Task Force Candlelight Vigil. Please join State Attorney General, Pam Bondi and Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner as keynote speakers.
The vigil is held in memory of those who have lost their lives due to drug and alcohol related incidents, and those suffering from the disease of addiction. In Hillsborough County, 2-5 people die of drug related overdoses every week.

Bloomingdale High School sophomore and football team member, Jamie “Sunshine” Phillips will be speaking at the event about the death of his brother, Spencer Foster, at the age of 14 due to a lethal combination of prescription drugs. This young athlete has made it his mission to educate middle and high school students about the dangers of prescription drugs.
In partnership with the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, Tampa Police, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the School District of Hillsborough County and DACCO; community leaders, law enforcement officials, and other anti-drug advocates will light candles, bow their heads in a moment of silence, and view a wall and video featuring the stories of teenagers and adults who died of drug poisoning in our community. They will also listen to Director R. Gil Kerlikowske of The Office of National Drug Control Policydeliver a pre-recorded keynote address on the strategies NOPE Task Force and the federal and state authorities are using to fight back against prescription drug abuse.
