(Sarasota, FL) The Sarasota-Manatee Originals (SMO), a trade organization comprised of more than 50 independent restaurants from Anna Maria to Venice, Fla., welcomes its newest member restaurants, Half Shell Oyster of Sarasota and Duval’s New World Café.
“We’re thrilled these inspired restaurants have joined The Originals,” says Kate Atkin, SMO executive director. “They join a hard-working, dynamic organization that comprises the best restaurants in the area.”
Wes Duval, the owner and executive chef of Duval’s, says that it makes smart business sense to join The Originals. “We’re proud to be a part of this great group of restaurants in a region known for its spectacular food. I’m passionate about serving the freshest, most delicious seafood. As a group, we’re all passionate about celebrating Southwest Florida’s culinary distinctiveness.” The downtown Sarasota restaurant features a diverse menu with traditional classics, as well as a monthly rotating menu spotlighting the cuisine of different locations around the world.
Dino Mirando, the proprietor of Half Shell Oyster of Sarasota, agrees that the Sarasota-Manatee region has become a hotbed of celebrated restaurants. “Thanks to the large number of independently owned, forward-thinking restaurateurs, our region has become has become a culinary destination. The restaurant industry is an important part of the regional economy and it makes sense to work together to keep it strong and thriving.” Half Shell Oyster House is a seafood restaurant and oyster bar in downtown Sarasota.
