|Dr. Elizabeth Callahan, the founder and medical director of SkinSmart Dermatology in Sarasota, FL, is interviewed in the November issue of Martha Stewart Living magazine as an expert on helping women develop an effective skin regimen to keep their necks healthy and youthful looking.
Titled “Be Nice to Your Neck,” the article points out that women need to educate themselves on caring for their necks to avoid the pull of gravity.
Dr. Callahan tells writer Joanne Chen that women 30 and over may want to give neck creams a go. “Look for those directed at treating fine lines and wrinkles,” says Dr. Callahan.
Many such creams boast toners that offer an immediate skin-tightening tingle and brighteners that help camouflage dark spots, she says.
She adds that peptides and plant stem cells help promote collagen regeneration with results similar to a doctor-supervised, in office treatment.
“The neck is one of the hardest areas to rejuvenate, so respect it,” concludes Dr. Callahan. “Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day.” And if you are outside, be sure to reapply.
SkinSmart Dermatology was founded by Dr. Callahan in 2005 to meet the diverse skincare needs of patients–whether medical, surgical or cosmetic.
The practice also houses a 500 square foot Skin Fitness Center with skincare products sourced from all over the world. It is open to her patients as well as to the general public.
Dr. Callahan received her M.D. degree from the Universitiy of Vermont and trained at the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic.
