Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham, District 4, will present a commendation on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners to Olympian Chris Colwill at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
Brandon native Colwill started diving in 1990 and trained at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center. He attended Tampa Preparatory School and went on to join the Swimming and Diving team at the University of Georgia. He participated in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Olympics in London.
Colwill will conduct free diving clinics on Saturday, October 13, and Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to noon for interested divers in the community. Immediately following the clinic, Commissioner Higginbotham will present the commendation to Colwill. Press are invited to attend the presentation at noon.
Having officially retired after the Summer games in London, Colwill will develop the Blue Wave diving program at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center in March 2013.
“I am so proud to commend an outstanding athlete who calls Brandon home,” said Commissioner Higginbotham. “I have no doubt his guidance and experience will result in future diving Olympians from our proud community.”
