CLEARWATER (October 9, 2012) – The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the August national job creation numbers, ranking Florida second, only behind Texas for the biggest increase over the month in job creation.
Florida’s August job creation total of 23,200 jobs continued a trend that saw the state experience positive job growth month to month for 11 of the past 14 months, and positive annual job growth for 25 consecutive months. The Tampa Bay metropolitan statistical area (MSA) which includes parts of four counties and the cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater had the second largest job gain over the year with 17,000 jobs. The Tampa Bay MSA is one of twenty-two MSA’s in the state of Florida and has led the state in job growth in nine of the last twelve months.
Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance and WorkNet Pinellas serve as the regional workforce development boards for Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties respectively. They are two of twenty-four workforce boards in the state of Florida and each has been ranked in the top ten on the Department of Economic Opportunities (DEO) monthly job placement report for August and September. According to the report the two regions combined to place 6,135 individuals into employment in the month of August and 10,560 for September.
