Learn the basics of voiceover technique in this intensive one-day workshop
(Sarasota, FL) Millions of people pride themselves on their pleasant speaking voices. But few make the break to work as professionals in the voiceover industry. Professional voice coach John Burr will speak about how to make that possible during a one-day Voiceover Basics Workshop, Saturday, October 20, 2012, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Sarasota. The workshop fee is $100; space is limited to 10 students. To register online, visit www.johnburrvoice.com/signup/. For more information about the workshop, call 941-378-0021 or visit www.johnburrvoice.com.
The workshop leader and founder of John Burr Voice Dynamics, Burr has more than 30 years experience as a professional voice talent, voice coach, recording engineer and audio/video producer. His many years in the industry provide him an in-depth understanding of every stage of the production process. His recording studio in Sarasota offers state-of-the-art post-production equipment and more than 100,000 music and sound effects cuts for producing professional-quality voiceover demos
“Becoming a first-rate voiceover talent is far from easy,” says Burr. “It involves a commitment to the learning process and training with a seasoned professional.” He explains that voiceovers are used in radio and TV commercials, movies, documentaries, political campaigns, animations and cartoons, and for corporate projects. “There is a wealth of viable opportunities for voiceover actors,” says Burr. “This can be a very lucrative career.”
The workshop will feature an overview of the voiceover industry, the basics of technique, and critique sessions in commercial and narration techniques. “By the end of the session, you’ll know if this is a field to pursue,” he says.
Students who study with Burr appreciate his insight and honest assessment of their potential as well as his connections within the voice talent industry. “He gives students his honest opinion of whether or not they have what it takes to be in the business of voiceovers,” says former student and voice actor Bradley Keville. “What I admire the most about him, though, is that he does not forget you once you complete your training with him. Since completing my voiceover training with John, he’s referred several voiceover jobs that he thinks are right for me.”
In addition to the workshop, Burr offers one-on-one coaching for individuals ready to begin or continue a career in the expanding voiceover industry. “We study the dynamics of script interpretation, develop an understanding of language dynamics, learn how to control the parameters of on-mike technique, and build confidence in your ability to handle audition and project scenarios,” says Burr.
