|Volunteers will construct an entire home in one week (Oct. 20-27) for Breast Cancer Awareness
TAMPA, FL October 3, 2012 – October 20-27, Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County Florida, Inc. will build an entire house in just one week during the 2012 October Blitz Build. The Wilson family has partnered with Habitat Hillsborough for the 5th Annual build for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The home, built by volunteers from the community, as well as the partner family, will be the eighth home in Providence Pointe, Habitat Hillsborough’s newest neighborhood.
Construction will commence with a Wall Raising ceremony on Saturday, October 20 at 9:00 am at 8429 Radio Lane, Tampa, FL 33619.
“We are grateful for member partners, generous supporters and dedicated volunteers who give of their time and energy to help us Build Hope for The Cure,” said Kelly Oliver, Habitat Hillsborough board chair. “We are excited to welcome the Wilson family into the developing community of Providence Pointe.”
The Annual Blitz Build carries on Habitat Hillsborough’s commitment to honor and celebrate the strength of those who are engaged in the battle against breast cancer, as well as those who have gone before us.
Cancer touches people in many ways. From her experience with a co-worker, a breast cancer survivor, to having a friend and a family member pass away from cancer, Lateema understands the significance of this special event. “I watched my co-worker go through chemo and lose her hair. Her life became an example of believing in God and getting through hard times,” she said. “My grandfather’s dying wish was for me to have a home of my own and raise my family.”
Each year, Habitat Hillsborough hosts a “Survivor Day” on the Friday of the blitz build. Breast cancer survivors are invited to volunteer on Friday, October 26, and share their stories of perseverance and growth in our “Courage and Hope” tent. The Annual Blitz Build participants are also encouraged to share their stories and pictures of those they wish to honor.
Volunteers are needed to make this blitz build a huge success! Register to volunteer and create a fundraising page at www.FirstGiving.com/HabitatHillsborough/5th-annual-suzie-q. Contact Yvonne Meredith, volunteer coordinator, at 813.239.2242, ext. 114, for more information.
