Sarasota FL, Nov. 10, 2012 –Did you know that today homeless families are the fastest growing population of homeless in the U.S.? Sarasota County had 925 homeless children in the school system last year. Be a part of the solution to family homelessness in our community through the 1st Annual Cardboard Box City event on Nov. 10th to support Family Promise Sarasota.
Family Promise Sarasota is a nonprofit in Sarasota that assists homeless families to regain their independence. Over 80% of the families completing the program have successfully attained stable housing, employment and childcare. We invite you to raise awareness of family homelessness on Saturday, Nov. 10th at our 1st Annual Cardboard Box City at the Nightlife Center property (6420 S. Tamiami Tr.)
Participants collect pledges of $75 or more per box and set up your decorated cardboard box home for the night starting at 4pm on Saturday evening. A simple dinner will be served, a DJ will play, Jimmy G.’s All-Stars band will play, 2011’s America’s Got Talent contestant “Lil Chris” will perform and we’ll hear from Florida’s YOUNGEST landlord Willow Tufano. A late-night, outdoor movie will be shown. Participants sleep in their box overnight & exit Sunday morning between 6am and 7am.
Spend this fun evening under the stars enjoying others in our community wanting to GIVE! During our event you will learn about what it is like to be homeless from our past guests in the Family Promise program.
Family Promise Program Assistant (and Chair of this event) Camille Chapman said, “The best part of organizing this event is the enthusiasm shown by the youth in our community to participate and help the kids in our community who are in a harder place than themselves. It’s an easy and fun way to help homeless kids.’”
Individuals of all ages, families, youth groups, schools, sororities, fraternities, civic and faith organizations are all welcome! Proceeds will benefit our homeless children with families. Visit www.familypromisesarasota.org to register today! Call 952-1800 with any questions. Join us Saturday, Nov. 10th to end homelessness, one family at a time.
