OCTOBER 2, 2012 (TAMPA, FLA.) – Laser Spine Institute, the leader in minimally invasive spine surgery, announced today the promotion of Lisa A. Melamed to general counsel. Melamed previously served as staff attorney and has provided a range of legal and compliance support services for Laser Spine Institute since she joined the company in 2010.

Prior to joining Laser Spine Institute, Melamed was the vice president and associate counsel for Horizon Bay Senior Communities. She was responsible for managing all litigation and administrative actions which covered more than 70 communities in 17 states. Melamed has also worked for several prominent law firms in South Florida, concentrating on a wide-range of areas, including senior housing defense and general civil litigation.
In addition, Melamed is active in several professional organizations and recently received her Licensed Health Care Risk Management (LHCRM) certification from the State of Florida. She also holds membership to The Florida Bar and is frequent speaker at healthcare and legal conferences, having recently presented at the 2012 Becker’s 10th Annual Orthopedic Spine and Pain Management-Driven ASC Conference.
Melamed received her juris doctorate from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and women studies cum laude from University of Miami.
