Local Krewe hosts benefit Masquerade Party at Brandon’s Smokey Bones, Saturday, October 27.
Brandon, FL – October 1, 2012 – Brandon/Ruskin based Ye Notorious Krewe of the Peg Leg Pirate will host their annual Halloween costume party at Smokey Bones Bar and Fire Grill in the Brandon Town Center Mall on Saturday, October 27 with the proceeds benefiting local area amputees and their families. Founded in 2004 as a charitable organization, the Peg Leg Pirate Krewe has dedicated the last 8 years to champion the needs of local amputees, especially children and veterans, raising donations through a host of fun events. The Krewe has provided custom hand-driven bicycles and tricycles to local children with amputations, prosthetics, wheelchair ramps, college scholarships, summer school camps, and more.
“We met Lexi at age six; she had a leg amputated shortly after birth, leaving her only able to watch her twin sister play. The Krewe presented her with a specially designed cycle that gave her independence and confidence, now Lexi and her sister happily ride bikes together,” stated Denise Reiter, a Krewe Captain.
“Casey lost both of his legs to cancer at age 10, with the gift of a hand-cycle, we were able to provide muscle stimulation through fun exercise, building his strength and stamina. Casey now plans on competing in physically challenged and non-challenged cycle events; he has a lot of spirit and that is thanks enough for our Krewe members,” added Joe Hocter, Krewe Admiral and Head Pirate.
“One of the Krewe’s main goals is to allow these amazing kids to just be kids, not kids with amputations, and to date, we have donated over $120,000 to this awesome cause. However, we can’t do it without local support, so come out and join us. Have fun and support a great cause” says Lisa Esposito, a local attorney and Krewe Member.
The Peg Leg Krewe Masquerade Party will offer a full buffet, pirate auction, 50/50 drawing costume contest and more. Tickets are available at the Brandon Smokey Bones and online at www.PegLegPirate.org for only $10, Adults Only.
