October 6 event invites USF students to pitch ideas and turn the winners into apps – all in one day!
Tampa, Fla. (Sept. 25, 2012) – As part of its ongoing initiative to help close the technology skills gap in region, the Tampa Bay Technology Forum (TBTF) today announced that it is sponsoring the Createch Hackathon, to be held on the USF Tampa campus on Saturday, October 6 in the Engineering Success Center (Kopp Building 104, 105). The Createch Hackathon is the university’s first, offering USF student teams of up to five developers to compete for first and second place awards in three categories: Best Overall Execution, Best Code, and Best Design.
“We are so excited about the Hackathon, and very proud to support it,” said Heather TBTF’s president and CEO. “The energy, creativity, and brain power among those student developers is formidable. Their skills are sorely needed to fuel the growth of technology companies here, and we want them to know how much they are valued. This is a great way for these developers and designers to show their stuff and for us to get a sense of the talent coming out of USF.”
The Createch Hackathon kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with an app idea pitching session, followed by a vote on the best ideas, and then teams are dispatched to develop them. All of the app ideas submitted must relate to USF, Tampa, or Hillsborough County. The teams have all afternoon to work on their apps, and then judging begins at 6:45 p.m. Winners are announced at 7:15 p.m. and the event adjourns.
