Pasco, Hillsborough & Pinellas, Florida (May 24, 2017) – Medical Center of Trinity recently announced its Nurse of the Year Award and New Nurse of the Year award winners. The awards were presented at the Nursing Year in Review celebration to members of the nursing staff who support the mission, vision, and values of the nursing department and who have demonstrated that they work as a team to provide exceptional service to every patient, every time. The New Nurse of the Year and Nurse of the Year award is a physician choice award selected by the physicians of the hospital. They must embody the following characteristics: integrity, professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, teamwork, nurturing, be empathetic, and respectful.
The Nurse of the Year – Mitchell Jessie, RN, Behavioral Health Services. His nomination stated that Mitchell has the ability to touch the lives of every person with whom he comes into contact. He is someone who is admired by his patients as well as family members who seek him out. Some staff members say they want to be him “when they grow up.” The physician who nominated him stated, “If you drop by Behavioral Health Services you are most likely to find Mitchell out on the unit, talking one-on-one with a patient, oftentimes not even one on his assignment. He is full of compassion and has a gift to make others feel so special, loved and worthy.” Mitchell is observed saying, “It is my job to make each of my patients understand that they are a person of value.” Mr. Jessie puts patient needs first and has been identified as a top performer in patient surveys and is perhaps the most complimented of all staff members. He is admired by team members for his skills of empathy and for his sunny disposition, sense of humor, and the ability to make everyone laugh.
New Nurse of the Year – Shawna Mulherin, RN. As a new nurse at Medical Center of Trinity Shawna has served on 4 West for six months. Her nomination states that she has already displayed professionalism, responsiveness and teamwork in all of her interactions with staff and patients. Ms. Mulherin has received multiple compliments from patients on her personality and care. She is described as kind, caring, and helpful. One patient even commented, “She looks like she really enjoys her job and makes it her personal mission to ensure that I have everything I need.”
