TAMPA – Shareholder Landis V. “Lance” Curry, III was recently appointed Chair of the Appellate Court Rules Committee effective July 1, 2017. He was appointed to this position by The Florida Bar President-Elect, Michael J. Higer. The scope and function of the Appellate Court Rules Committee is to carry out the mandate of Rule 2.140, Florida Rules of Judicial Administration, concerning the proposal of new rules of procedure and changes to existing rules.
Mr. Higer stated in the appointment correspondence to Curry, “I appreciate your dedication to committee service and our profession, and I am confident your leadership skills will greatly contribute to the success of the committee’s goals.”
Mr. Curry is a Shareholder in the firm’s Litigation and Appellate Practice Groups and is the firm’s Assistant General Counsel. His practice primarily involves appellate practice, commercial litigation, and legal malpractice defense. He has handled appellate proceedings in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Supreme Court of Florida, and Florida’s District Courts of Appeal. He has also successfully represented clients at the trial court level in a wide variety of complex commercial disputes, including cases alleging legal malpractice, commercial fraud, securities fraud, and breaches of contracts.
Curry is active in the legal community. He has served as Co-Chair of the ABA Appellate Practice Committee’s Programming Subcommittee, as Vice-Chair of The Florida Bar Appellate Practice Section’s CLE Committee, and as Assistant Editor of The Record (the Journal of The Florida Bar’s Appellate Practice Section).
