SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new transfer station at The Mall at University Town Center at 2 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 30.
The new station is SCAT’s fifth transfer station. It serves routes 15 and 30, Monday through Friday, and route 215S on Sunday. These routes service Lakewood Ranch, the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and downtown Sarasota. The new facility is equipped with security cameras, lighting, restrooms, ample seating and shade for riders who are waiting for their transfers.
The new station is also within walking distance of Nathan Benderson Park, which is hosting the World Rowing Championships in September and October.
“We are ecstatic about this new transfer station, which will help connect residents to all the wonderful amenities the University Parkway and Interstate 75 corridor have to offer,” said SCAT Director Rocky Burke. “I encourage everyone to come out and join us for this celebration.”
Officials from Sarasota County and the Benderson Development Corporation are expected to attend. There will also be live music and refreshments.
