School has won this competition for the past four years.
St. Petersburg, FL – January 19, 2017 – President/Principal Fr. Richard Rosin, SDB of St. Petersburg Catholic High School (SPCHS) is proud to announce the academic achievements of two of the school’s students in the annual Tony Jannus Essay Contest. First place was awarded to Annie Nguyen, class of 2018, with Antonio Sclafani, class of 2018, placing third in the competition that recognizes outstanding local students.
The Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society honored Annie Nguyen this past Friday and presented her with $600 and three Southwest Airline tickets. Fr. Richard Rosin noted “St. Pete Catholic is honored to have had students receive this prestigious award for four years in a row. All of us congratulate Annie and Antonio.“

The Tony Jannus Essay Contests gives students in grades 9 – 12 the opportunity to submit an essay of 1000 – 1500 words that integrates one or more of the following points:
- Florida’s influence on worldwide commercial aviation with particular reference to the contribution and legacy of Tony Jannus;
- The contribution to commercial aviation by one of the recipients of the Tony Jannus Award;
- The economic impact of commercial aviation with particular reference to jobs, trade and tourism; and
- How Tony Jannus and/or Tony Jannus Award Recipients have stimulated me to explore the aviation industry as a possible career field.
