SARASOTA, Fla. (January 12, 2017) – Guy and Cynthia Peterson have sold their iconic downtown Sarasota office building for $1 million. The property, a 2,261-square-foot contemporary office space, is located at 1234 1st Street in the heart of the Arts and Cultural District.
Ian Black, CCIM, and Steve Horn, CCIM, partners at Ian Black Real Estate, represented the seller. John Harshman of Harshman & Company represented the buyer, Performing Properties II, LLC.
“The location of this property couldn’t be much better,” said Black. “It’s one of the few free-standing office buildings in the downtown core with a number of new developments – including three hotels – popping up within walking distance. The City of Sarasota has also made significant improvements to the streets in this area, which will be a huge benefit to the buyer.”
The property itself also has its appeal. It was designed by Tim Siebert in 1980 and then later updated by Guy Peterson, FAIA, principal architect at Guy Peterson Office for Architecture. The current space reflects Peterson’s belief and implementation of “essentialism,” a concept that demands design by analysis and reduction rather than by stylistic imitation and embellishment.
Peterson is well known for his modernist approach to architecture. Under his leadership, the firm has received over 60 design awards and honors for its work, including 40 design awards from the American Institute of Architects.
