• WUSF Public Media Wins Big At National Web Design Contest

image002 copyTAMPA, Fla. (September 4, 2015) WUSF Public Media won national recognition for innovative web design, taking home the 2015 WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Web Development, Non-Profit Standard of Excellence. This follows a series of awards for WUSF recently won for high-quality journalism.

The WebAward comes from the Web Marketing Association, which has been setting the standard for website development since 1997. WUSF won for the overall WUSF.org website, and particularly for its responsive design that helps attract multi-media listeners and viewers.

The WUSF.org website instantly adapts to the user’s own device, whether on desktop, laptop, tablet or cell phone – and adapts to both Apple and Android-based devices. The site’s design also weaves in large-format background artwork to give an atmosphere of depth to the experience.

WUSF Director of Digital Services Willow Wright designed the overall approach to the site and drew on teams from Hot Sauce Design & Development, Driessen Design, Ameex Technology and Drupal Geeks.

“This site was a huge leap forward for us at WUSF,” Wright said. “And we need to take such leaps, because the media landscape evolves so quickly, and our listeners expect and deserve the best digital experience from us, the same as they should from any commercial media institution.”

The overall design incorporates a series of WUSF platforms, including WUSF 89.7, classical music on WSMR 89.1 & 103.9, plus information from WUSF TV 16.1, 2, 3 and 4.

The design award comes on the heels of WUSF winning a string of other awards for its journalism. That includes eight awards in Florida from the Society of Professional Journalists, including “Anchor of the Year” for Morning Edition local host Carson Cooper. WUSF also received top radio honors for best newscast, investigative reporting, government coverage, feature reporting, public affairs – covering topics such as the USF Dozier investigations, new FDA rules addressing cigars, STEM programs, military issues coverage and more.

“I am extremely proud of our team here at WUSF,” said JoAnn Urofsky, General Manager of WUSF Public Media. “We’re making such great strides in both our journalism and in the methods we use to deliver news and entertainment. Awards like this give well-deserved recognition to those who work so hard to bring public media to our listeners and viewers. Well done!”
