• Venice Brews and Blues Festival Nov 16, 2013

(Venice, Florida) Venice MainStreet produces its first annual Blues and Brews Festival

on November 16, 2013 with the help of SunCoast Blues Society. There will be an excellent line up of regional and international blues musicians. Five out of the six performers are International Blues Challenge Winners. The performers are, The Delta Swamp Rats, Mike Imbasciani, Lauren Mitchell, Ori Naftaly, Selwyn Birchwood, and 70 year old blues legend Joey Gilmore. Sixteen-year-old Mike Imbasciani,, a fantastic blues guitarist, is favored to win future competitions. Ori Naftaly, Israel’s top blues band is traveling from Israel to play our festival.

This festival helps serve Venice MainStreet’s mission of promoting historic downtown Venice. Hosting events, increasing visitors, which in turn increases business. Our aim is to promote tourism, and relocation of residents and businesses onto Venice.  The Blues Festival is also providing proceeds to fund musical instruments for Venice High School.

“We had our choice of non-profits looking for funding from this festival,” said Venice MainStreet’s director Kat Quast, “but since this is about great music and musicians, we thought it would be wonderful to buy instruments for our area schools.” SunCoast Blues Society is a big supporter of music education so they are taking a portion of the proceeds to buy a sousaphone for Venice High.

We are really hoping that this festival is a big success so that next year we can get more sponsors, reduce the cost to the public and still make enough money to help both 501C3’s and purchase more instruments for more schools.

Not only will this festival have fabulous music, but it will also have amazing food. Some of Venice’s local restaurants will be on site: Blu Island Bistro, Brew Burgers, Café Venice, Sharky’s, and Tomatillos. Venice Farmer’s Market is also participating by relocating the market into the festival that Saturday. That means tons of cool vendors, lots of great food, and, of course, Budweiser products and Florida Brewed craft beers, provided by Gold Coast Distributing.

Our sponsors for this year’s festival are: Suncoast KIA of Venice, Tervis, Englewood Bank and Trust, Roberts Insurance, and Ciao Gelato. They are true visionaries and we could not do this festival without their help. Please thank them by patronizing their businesses.
